Before your property goes on the market, making improvements to energy efficiency can save you thousands.
A survey by SellingUp suggests that low energy efficiency ratings could cost the vendor. Over half (59%) of the potential purchasers surveyed said they would lower their offer for a property with a low score. Over a third (36%) said the offer reduction would be thousands and 16% consider the options of pulling out altogether.
Before putting your property on the market, consider some cost-effective improvements to help lower ongoing fuel bills.
It is relatively simple to insulate your home, the roof, loft and attic. The Energy Saving Trust estimates have stated that making changes to the insulation can see annual savings of up to £240.
Boilers are said to account for over half (55%) of your annual energy bill. So by replacing an old G-rated boiler with an A-rated condensing boiler with heating controls, fuel bill savings could be around £340. Combine a new boiler with double-glazing, loft insulation, wall insulation and other recyclable energy appliances to see even more significant savings annually.
People purchasing older houses and commercial properties are aware of paying higher fuel bills than necessary. The SellingUp survey highlights that energy efficiency is a priority to consider when selling a house. Green schemes can help people make their homes energy efficient, avoid wasted energy and enjoy warmer homes.
