Project Overview

Plumb London attended the property following the need to replace an existing boiler that had reached the end of its serviceable life. The system required full isolation and safe decommissioning before any new installation could proceed.

The primary risk was not limited to the boiler itself. Without proper system preparation, any replacement would be exposed to contamination within the existing pipework, leading to reduced efficiency and potential early failure.

The objective was to install a new, reliable boiler while ensuring the system it operated within was clean, protected, and stable.

Key Work Completed

The existing boiler was isolated and removed following a full system drain down, ensuring safe working conditions and preventing contamination during installation.

A new Ideal Logic2 C24 boiler was installed, selected for reliability and supported by a 10-year manufacturer warranty, providing long-term assurance for the landlord.

Before commissioning, the system underwent a full powerflush using chemical agents and vibration methods. This process removes sludge and debris built up within pipework and radiators. Without this step, contaminants would circulate into the new boiler, increasing the risk of heat exchanger blockage, reduced efficiency, and premature failure.

To further protect the system, an inline scale reducer and magnetic filter were installed. These components address two primary causes of boiler degradation—limescale formation and circulating debris—helping to maintain long-term system performance.

Heating controls were upgraded with a T3R wireless room thermostat, improving temperature regulation and system efficiency.

Once installed, the system was fully reinstated, tested, and balanced. Radiators were checked to confirm correct heat distribution, ensuring the system was operating effectively across the property.

The system was then dosed with inhibitor to provide ongoing internal protection. A Domestic Gas Safety Certificate was issued on completion, confirming compliance.

Environment / Operational Considerations

Works were carried out within an occupied residential property, requiring controlled shutdown of heating and hot water systems.

All stages—from isolation and removal to flushing and commissioning—were sequenced to minimise disruption while maintaining safe working conditions.

Additional Works and Building Protection
