Project Overview
This case study covers two separate projects carried out by Plumb London for a residential client in Enfield, EN1. The first, completed in March 2026, was an annual service of the client’s Vaillant ecoFIT Pure 830 combination boiler. During that inspection, our engineer identified a below-threshold gas supply pressure at the meter, a safety issue entirely unrelated to the boiler itself, and took immediate action to have it formally rectified through the appropriate network provider.
The second project, quoted in May and delivered across two days in June 2026, involved the complete plumbing and installation of a new dishwasher in the client’s kitchen. This included new supply and waste pipework, cabinet alterations, drainage modifications, and full appliance commissioning. Both projects were completed to a high standard and to the client’s satisfaction.
The Client’s Brief
For the boiler service, the client wanted an annual health check to confirm the appliance was operating safely and efficiently. No concerns had been reported before the visit.
For the kitchen project, the client needed all plumbing works completed ahead of the dishwasher installation. Their requirements were:
New water supply and waste pipework routed to the chosen appliance position
- Full integration within the existing kitchen layout, with minimal visual disruption
- Removal and modification of an existing cabinet to create the required recess
- Connection to the existing drainage system
- Installation of a customer-supplied appliance, with all connections fully tested and confirmed leak-free
Our Survey & Recommendations
During the boiler service in March 2026, our engineer carried out a full inspection of the Vaillant ecoFIT Pure 830, a three-year-old combination boiler with no reported faults. The appliance was confirmed as operating in line with manufacturer installation standards.
However, a gas pressure check at the meter returned a reading of 17.45 mbar, below the 19 mbar minimum required for safe and efficient operation. This type of fault sits upstream of the boiler entirely and is the responsibility of the gas network provider.
Our engineer issued an At-Risk notice in line with Gas Safe obligations and contacted Cadent Gas directly to report the faulty pressure regulator, logging the issue under reference 3006292534. The client was kept fully informed throughout.
For the kitchen works, we carried out a dedicated site visit to assess the layout, confirm the dishwasher position, and establish the most practical routing for new pipework and waste connections. A detailed written quotation followed for the client’s review.
Planning & Preparation
Following the kitchen survey, the client took time to review the quotation before confirming their instruction to proceed, entirely standard for domestic plumbing projects, and our team remained available throughout to answer questions. Once approved, the works were scheduled for 25 and 26 June 2026, with parking arrangements at the property confirmed in advance to ensure an efficient start on both days.

A formal written testimonial was not obtained for this project. The client was satisfied with the outcome of both visits and remains a valued customer of Plumb London.
Timeline & Completion
The boiler service was completed as a single visit on 20 March 2026. The kitchen installation was carried out over two days on 25 and 26 June 2026, in line with the programme agreed at booking. Both phases were delivered on schedule and without disruption to the client.
Challenges & How We Solved Them
Below-threshold gas pressure at the meter
What began as a routine annual boiler service revealed a gas supply pressure of 17.45 mbar at the meter, below the 19 mbar minimum threshold. Although the boiler itself was functioning correctly, a sustained under-pressure supply can affect performance over time and, more importantly, presents a recognised safety concern. Our engineer acted without hesitation: an At-Risk notice was issued and Cadent Gas was contacted the same day to arrange rectification of the faulty pressure regulator (ref 3006292534). This is exactly why a thorough annual service matters, issues that originate outside the appliance can still be identified and escalated before they become a bigger problem.
Kitchen layout constraints
Domestic kitchen installations rarely follow a standard template, and this project was no exception. The existing layout needed careful assessment to identify the optimal dishwasher position, the most efficient pipework routing, and the extent of unit modification required. We addressed this at survey stage, planning the works thoroughly and communicating transparently with the client about the possibility of a minor projection from the unit line, a common outcome given the spatial constraints of many London kitchens. Clear communication at the outset meant no surprises on the day.
Working with a customer-supplied appliance
The client chose to supply their own dishwasher for installation. Our team connected and commissioned it to exactly the same standard as any manufacturer-supplied unit, with all connections tested before leaving site. Clients supplying their own appliances are advised in advance that product registration and warranty compliance remain their responsibility, a point we’re always clear about, and one that protects the client as much as us.
The Finished Result
The boiler service confirmed that the Vaillant ecoFIT Pure 830 was in good working order for its age. Identifying and promptly escalating the gas pressure fault meant a potential safety issue was resolved before it had any impact on the household. Without a thorough inspection, this fault could have gone undetected for some time.
The kitchen installation was completed neatly across two days. New supply and waste pipework was cleanly integrated within the existing layout, the dishwasher was correctly positioned and connected, and the appliance was fully tested before handover. The client was left with a functional, well-finished installation, a tidy work area, and a kitchen noticeably better equipped than when we arrived.
Project Investment
The kitchen dishwasher installation was completed at a project value of £2,500 plus VAT, covering preparatory plumbing, new supply and waste pipework, cabinet modifications, drainage alterations, appliance fitting, and comprehensive leak and operation testing.
The annual boiler service represents a routine but important recurring investment in the safety and longevity of the heating system, and on this occasion it returned significantly more value than the service itself by identifying a gas supply fault that needed immediate attention.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I have my boiler serviced?
We recommend an annual service as a minimum. Regular servicing keeps the appliance running efficiently, helps maintain your warranty where applicable, and, as this project demonstrates, gives a trained engineer the opportunity to identify issues that may not be obvious to the homeowner. All gas work must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
What is an At-Risk notice, and what happens next?
An At-Risk notice is issued by a Gas Safe registered engineer when a gas installation is found to be in an unsafe condition. In this case, the issue was identified at the gas meter, an upstream fault outside the boiler, and was referred immediately to Cadent Gas, the network provider responsible for the infrastructure. Issuing an At-Risk notice is both a legal requirement and the right course of action to protect the occupants of a property.
Can you install a dishwasher I have already purchased?
Yes, we install customer-supplied appliances regularly. Our team carries out all associated plumbing works and connects the appliance to the same standard as any other installation. We ask clients to note that we’re unable to offer guarantees on goods supplied by the customer, and that product registration for warranty purposes remains the client’s responsibility.
How long does a dishwasher installation typically take?
It depends on the scope of the plumbing works involved. A like-for-like swap of an existing appliance is often achievable in a single day. Where new pipework needs to be run, drainage altered, or cabinetry modified, as was the case here, we recommend allowing two days to make sure the work is done properly and without compromise.
